This course provides an introduction to food history, oral history, and public history. Students will conduct oral history interviews on the Manitoba Food History Truck, process them for archival deposit, and produce a public history project (podcast episode) for possible publication (as part of the Manitoba Food History Project podcast series Preserves).
The first week of this course will be taught in classrooms at the University of Winnipeg (5 classes of 3 hours each). Students will be divided into small groups for the second week, with instruction time of approximately 6 hours per day, to participate in field research trips, conduct archival research, and do research on the Manitoba Food History Truck.

Oral History Association Conference
The project team is participating in two events at the 2018 Oral History Association Conference in Montreal. Kent Davies is co-leading a workshop titled “Cooking with Sound: How to Make Great Aural Histories with the Best Sonic Ingredients.” And “The Manitoba Food History Truck” is a roundtable featuring Janis Thiessen, Kimberley Moore, Kent Davies, and Sarah Story.
